A WORLD BEYOND ENGLISH

Nowadays, the globalization process and the developing of the communication technologies have made English a very important language to learn. The world organizations such as the United Nations and the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) use English as their international language. Non-English speaking singers translate their songs to English so more people can understand the lyrics. Most of the world’s population speak English as their native or second language, so it has become the most international language.

I personally agree everyone should learn how to speak in English, because then they will be able to apply to more jobs and set more relationships with people all around the world. But what it is unfair is that English people expect everyone to speak their language, so they don’t make any effort to understand and learn other languages. I disagree with this because when they come to a foreign country, they can’t pretend to be understood by everybody, because not everyone has studied English as a compulsory subject, and they aren’t made to.

Perhaps there’s an arrogant reason to explain their behaviour. Maybe, they don’t want to learn other languages because they think they are superior, they have contributed the most to the global developing and they expect everybody to follow their lifestyle.

It is true people should improve their English because nowadays it’s the most international language. However, they can expect everyone to understand them because people aren’t made to learn this language. In fact, if they had learnt other languages, they wouldn’t have to expect everybody to speak English.
